As a student, my early years of education were with the Northside Independent School District, where I graduated from John Marshall High School. After graduation I attended UTSA and earned a degree in Education with certifications in grades 1-8 general, as well as Biology grades 1-8. In 1983 I became a Middle School Science Teacher for NISD. Much to my surprise after my first year I was voted Rookie Science Teacher of The Year for NISD. My passion is teaching and connecting with students, families and peers. Getting involved has never been a problem for me as I have been a cheerleader sponsor, science club sponsor, at - risk coordinator, GT teacher, and Student Council sponsor just to name a few! My love of teaching is equal to my love learning, so I went back to UTSA to receive a Master's Degree in Education and became a certified School Counselor. Soon I became a Head Counselor in NISD and as a counselor I received several awards and served on many committees, the latest being the MLK scholarship committee. Unfortunately, I had to retire in January of 2017 to help care for my father in the end stages of Alzheimer's. After the loss of my father, I missed education and making connections, so I applied to Texas A&M University San Antonio and was hired in January 2020. Previously, I taught Psychology at the college level, and have always wanted to return to Higher education to mentor teachers. Dreams do come true, and I look forward to mentoring each of you!
