Internship Description

Aperture LLC is currently interviewing for a paid internship position in our Human Factors group. Aperture is a full-service provider of forensic expert services primarily consulting for attorneys to scientifically evaluate accident causation. The Intern will focus on supporting senior consultants in ways including but not limited to conducting human subjects research and litigation-centered case work. The Intern will help understand and communicate how human performance abilities and limitations interact with external factors for purposes of resolving claims and legal disputes for our clients.

The ideal candidate for this position has a background in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research; scientific literature review; descriptive and inferential statistical analysis; and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Job Summary

The intern will work independently, as part of the Human Factors team, as well as with engineers from various engineering disciplines. Candidates should feel comfortable working in a fast-paced and collaborative consulting environment, which requires a high degree of self-motivation, professionalism, organization, responsiveness, and resilience. The internship typically takes place over the course of 8 weeks during the summer months.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Assist with human subjects research.
• Assist with field investigations.
• Apply scientific principles and methods to analyses.
• Assist with writing reports and presentations detailing and defending observations and conclusions.


Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in cognitive science, human factors, kinesiology, neuroscience, psychology, or a related field; or pursuing a Master’s or Doctorate degree in a related field.
• Experience in contributing to human subjects research (e.g., study design, data collection, data analysis, publication/presentation).
• CITI certification.
• Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Ability to synthesize individual case facts with scientific literature into actionable insights.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Teaching experience is desirable.


Physical Requirements

• This position requires that you have the physical ability to perform all of the following functions: Climb ladders, walk on roofs, enter and work in confined spaces, work outdoors in hot or cold weather, lift up to 50 pounds, use necessary safety equipment,
• perform duties that may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, or squatting for prolonged periods of time
• Employee may be required to travel for business purposes.
