Role Description
Armour is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Earthwork Takeoff Intern to join our estimating team. This internship is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates pursuing a career in civil construction, construction management, or civil engineering who are interested in developing hands-on experience with earthwork estimating and project planning.
The ideal candidate should have the ability to read construction plans, possess a basic understanding of civil construction methods, and have an eagerness to learn industry-leading estimating software such as AGTEK. Working directly with experienced estimators, the intern will gain valuable exposure to site development, grading, excavation, cut/fill, materials and quantity takeoffs for commercial, private and public infrastructure projects.


Responsibilities
• Review civil construction plans, specifications, and project documents.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, grading, excavation, demolition, and site development projects.
• Assist in calculating cut/fill volumes and material quantities.
• Learn and utilize AGTEK software for terrain modeling, earthwork calculations, and quantity analysis.
• Assist with project budgeting and estimating.
• Review geotechnical reports, grading plans, and utility plans.
• Organize project documents and maintain estimating files.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and internal estimating discussions when applicable.
• Coordinate with estimators and project managers to clarify project scope.
• Research materials, subcontractors, and suppliers as needed.
• Support the estimating department with additional tasks and special projects.


Preferred Qualifications
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in: Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, Surveying, or any other related field.
• Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings and specifications.
• Basic understanding of grading, excavation, and site development.
• Familiarity with construction terminology and civil engineering principles.
• Experience with or willingness to learn AGTEK Earthwork software.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and grow.


Preferred Skills
• Exposure to AutoCAD or Civil 3D is a plus.
• Knowledge of GPS machine control or surveying is an advantage.
• Understanding of soil types, compaction, and earthwork operations is a plus.
