Internship Description

Investment Intern

Location: Remote, United States with periodic New York travel
Experience: 0-2 years

About the Company
Basis Vectors Capital is a New York-based private equity firm focused on acquiring and transforming B2B SaaS companies across the United States and Canada. The firm believes AI and global delivery are reshaping software economics, and it partners with SaaS businesses at key operational and strategic inflection points to modernize them through AI-driven workflows, globally distributed teams, and disciplined execution. The team works directly with management to improve product velocity, optimize cost structures, expand margins, and build more resilient software businesses for the AI era. It is a lean, high-conviction environment that combines financial rigor with deep operational insight. Interns get direct exposure to live transactions, operational strategy, and investment decision-making from day one.

Company Proof Points
• Basis Vectors Capital has five companies in its portfolio, showing active ownership and hands-on value creation across the B2B SaaS space.
• The firm works directly with management teams to improve product velocity, cost structure, margins, and resilience rather than relying on financial engineering alone.

Company Practices & Ways of Working
• The team values clear thinking, curiosity, speed, and intellectual honesty in a lean, high-conviction environment.
• Interns are given direct exposure to live transactions, operational strategy, and investment decision-making from day one.

About the Role
This internship is designed to mirror the work of senior investment professionals in a lower-middle-market B2B SaaS investment environment. The role offers direct exposure to evaluating acquisition targets, building and stress-testing financial models, supporting live deal processes, and contributing to portfolio and diligence work. It is ideal for candidates who want structured learning in private equity with real ownership over analysis and deliverables. The work is remote-first in the United States, with periodic travel to New York for deal reviews, team sessions, and firm events. Success in the role depends on analytical rigor, structured thinking, and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-moving environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Support the evaluation of B2B SaaS acquisition targets across the United States and Canada, turning market and company data into clear investment analysis.
• Build and refine financial models, including LBO models, DCF valuations, and SaaS metrics such as ARR, NRR, CAC, LTV, and churn, to support decision-making.
• Assist in risk assessment and return scenario analysis across potential acquisitions so the team can compare opportunities on a consistent basis.
• Participate in due diligence by reviewing financials, customer data, contracts, and competitive positioning, then synthesize findings into structured memos.
• Support monitoring of existing portfolio companies through periodic performance tracking and analysis of portfolio construction or optimization as directed.
• Conduct sector research on the B2B SaaS landscape, including market sizing, competitive dynamics, valuation benchmarks, and deal comps, to strengthen sourcing and underwriting.
• Prepare investment memos, presentation decks, and deal summaries for internal review, and communicate findings clearly to senior team members.

Essential Skills & Technologies
• Strong proficiency in Excel and financial modeling, with the ability to build, test, and refine models that support valuation and scenario analysis.
• Familiarity with financial databases and research tools, used to maintain deal trackers, internal repositories, and comparable transaction analysis.
• Analytical and detail-oriented mindset, with comfort working through ambiguous real-world data and identifying the assumptions that matter most.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, enabling concise memos, organized decks, and structured updates for senior investment professionals.
• Self-driven discipline in a remote-first environment, with the ability to work independently while staying responsive to team priorities.
• Genuine interest in private equity, SaaS business models, and technology investing, paired with curiosity and willingness to learn fast.
• Willingness and ability to travel to New York City when required for reviews, team sessions, and firm events.

Additional Plus
• Prior experience in investment banking, venture capital, private equity, or wealth management is a strong plus, especially for candidates who have worked on deal-related analysis.
• A background in engineering, computer science, or quantitative disciplines is strongly preferred because it helps in understanding the SaaS products being evaluated.
• Top-tier MBA experience, including M7 or equivalent programs, is especially relevant and helps align with the pace and expectations of the role.

What You'll Bring
• You will bring structured thinking and intellectual honesty, translating complex information into clear investment judgment that the team can act on.
• You will bring the discipline to work independently in a remote-first setup while still maintaining high standards for accuracy, speed, and communication.
• You will bring curiosity about private equity and SaaS investing, along with the motivation to learn from live transactions and real operating decisions.
• You will bring strong analytical foundations that help the team evaluate opportunities, weigh risk, and support decision-making with confidence.

The environment is structured but entrepreneurial, which means you can build a strong investing foundation quickly while contributing meaningfully to active work. • Mentorship from senior investment professionals with deep PE and SaaS expertise, helping you build a strong investing foundation quickly.
• A structured yet entrepreneurial environment that accelerates your learning and gives strong potential for conversion to a full-time role for exceptional performers.
