Vegetation Management Intern (Summer Internship)

Operations Department | Blue Ridge Energy

Are you interested in gaining hands-on experience in forestry, vegetation management, and utility operations? Blue Ridge Energy is seeking a Vegetation Management Intern to join our Operations team for a 12-week summer internship. This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to projects that directly support reliable electric service across our communities.

What You'll Do

As a Vegetation Management Intern, you will support the planning and execution of vegetation management initiatives that help maintain safe and reliable electric service. You will:

• Assist with research and fieldwork related to vegetation management programs
• Support the implementation of projects aligned with operational goals and strategic objectives
• Identify and evaluate tree species and vegetation near utility infrastructure
• Interpret technical data, maps, and work plans to support field activities
• Travel throughout Blue Ridge Energy's service area to assist with inspections and project work
• Collaborate with team members and contractors to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently
• Follow and promote all company safety standards and practices


What We're Looking For

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Enrollment in or completion of a forestry or related program preferred


Skills & Abilities

• Basic knowledge of tree work and tree species identification
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical instructions and data
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Basic computer proficiency
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Willingness to travel within the service area
• Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and personalities
• Strong commitment to safe work practices


Qualifications & Requirements

• Must be eligible for employment through a temporary staffing agency
• Valid U.S. driver's license with a good driving record required
• Must pass pre-employment screening, including background check and drug test
• Availability for occasional travel, including possible after-hours work
• Must comply with all company policies and safety standards


Working Conditions

This role involves a mix of field and office work and may include:

• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Walking, standing, and light physical activity in uneven terrain
• Exposure to typical vegetation management environments
