Internship Description

Breaking News ABA is the only newsroom 100% dedicated to Applied Behavior Analysis — covering the business, policy, and clinical news that BCBAs, RBTs, and clinic owners actually read. We're small, growing, and building an audience from the ground up.

We're hiring a paid marketing intern in the Lake Forest, IL area. Here's the honest version: the heart of this role is the same work our journalists do — reporting and writing real stories that publish under your byline. The difference is you'll also help get that work in front of the right people: social posts, the newsletter, headlines that earn the click. If you want marketing experience where you actually make the thing instead of just scheduling it, this is it.

You don't need to know anything about ABA yet. You need to write well, learn fast, and care about whether people read what you make.

What you'll do:
• Report and write news pieces and short features that publish with your name on them (the core of the job)
• - Help promote that work: LinkedIn/Instagram posts, newsletter copy, and sharp headlines
• - Pitch story ideas and angles for how to get them seen
• - Learn how an independent media brand grows an audience without a big budget
What we're looking for:
• A strong writer first, marketing instinct second (clips, student media, social, a blog all count)
• - Curious about both storytelling and distribution: what makes people click, share, subscribe
• - Currently a student or recent grad (marketing, comms, journalism, or a great writer from any major)
• - Reliable, deadline-driven, based in or near Lake Forest, IL and able to work in the office
The details:
• Paid internship: $18–$22/hour, based on experience
• - Part-time, ongoing. Lake Forest, IL. In-office preferred (no travel or event coverage required)
• - Work directly with the editor/founder — real bylines, real portfolio pieces, real ownership of how the work lands
How to apply: Send (1) a short note on why this interests you, (2) 1–3 samples (writing, social, or anything you've made), and (3) your availability. Bonus: a quick take on a BNA story you'd write and how you'd promote it.
