Internship Description

General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate administrative and research support work for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, including assisting with constituent services, preparing briefings, and staffing public events. Work is performed under the general direction of the Mayor and will report to the Mayor with oversight from the Executive Chief of Staff.

• This internship runs June 2026-July 2026 (6 weeks)

Essential Functions

• Help draft official Mayoral correspondence and other communications.
• Conduct research on issues and legislation affecting the City of Westfield.
• Prepares briefings and informational materials for the Mayor and Executive Chief of Staff.
• Attends public functions, community meetings, and Mayoral addresses, taking notes and providing staff support.
• Provides staffing support for Mayor Willis at events or meetings, ensuring logistics are coordinated.
• Develop and strengthen administrative skills through assigned projects and responsibilities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

General knowledge of public administration and municipal government functions; strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to conduct research and summarize findings clearly; ability to prepare briefing materials; strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to exercise discretion when handling sensitive or confidential matters; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, residents, and community stakeholders; passion for government and eagerness to learn about municipal operations.

Education And Experience

Open to high school or college students. Interest in government, public service, communications, or related areas preferred

Physical Requirements

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking, hearing, and using hands to handle or feel; frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing or walking; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., office, public event space).
