Role Description This is a remote educational internship role for a News Reporter at KGTX 7 News. The intern will research and pitch local stories, conduct interviews with community members and officials, and write clear, accurate news articles aligned with editorial standards. Daily tasks include gathering facts from multiple sources, verifying information, drafting reports for digital publication, and assisting with press release preparation when needed. The News Reporter intern will collaborate with editors and other team members to refine story angles, meet deadlines, and ensure balanced, ethical coverage of Galveston County news.
Qualifications
• Strong foundation in reporting and journalism, with the ability to gather information, interview sources, and maintain ethical standards.
• News writing and general writing skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise, and engaging content for digital platforms.
• Experience or familiarity with press releases, including drafting and adapting information for public and media audiences.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Interest in local news, public affairs, and community issues relevant to Galveston County.
• Current enrollment in or recent completion of a Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or related program is preferred but not required.
• Basic digital literacy, including comfort with online research tools, word processing, and collaboration platforms.
• The ability to work without AI generated content.
