Position Summary:
Paratum Solutions is seeking a GIS Intern to support a utility GIS mapping project through hands-on, field-based GPS data collection. This role is entirely field-focused and ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, traveling to new locations, and contributing to the creation of accurate, high-quality spatial datasets. The project is expected to take 3-6 weeks, with the potential for another 9-12 weeks through the Fall.
• Location: Overland Park, KS
• Worksite Type: 100% in field
• Position Type: Internship, Full-Time
• Pay Range: $16.50–$20.00/hour (based on experience)
• Duration: Summer 2026, potential extension through Spring 2027

Key Responsibilities
• Collect geospatial data in the field using handheld GPS units and mobile data collection applications
• Record accurate location information for assets, infrastructure, and environmental features
• Verify and update existing spatial data through field validation and ground-truthing
• Capture attribute data, photos, and notes to support GIS database development
• Follow established data collection standards and workflows to ensure consistency and accuracy
• Navigate to assigned locations using maps, GPS devices, and mobile applications
• Communicate regularly with project managers regarding progress, issues, and field conditions
• Maintain and care for field equipment, ensuring proper operation and security
Qualifications
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field
• Basic understanding of GPS technology and geospatial concepts
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather and terrain conditions
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
• Ability to follow directions and work independently in the field
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Physical Requirements
• Ability to walk long distances (5–10+ miles per day)
• Ability to stand, bend, and carry equipment (up to 25–30 lbs)
• Willingness to work in heat, cold, and uneven terrain
Work Environment
• 100% field-based role with travel to project sites
• Work may occur in urban, suburban, or natural environments
• Schedule may vary based on project needs and weather conditions
