Internship Description

Prox Shopping
Remote Internship | Santa Monica, CA if local

About the job
Prox is a fast-growing grocery savings startup helping shoppers save money by making smarter grocery decisions. We’re building tools that make it easier for consumers to compare prices, discover deals, track savings, and shop smarter across the grocery retailers they already use.

We’re looking for a Product Marketing Manager Intern to help shape how Prox explains, positions, and launches its product to consumers, partners, and potential users.

About the Role
This is an unpaid internship, ideal for students or early-career candidates who want hands-on experience in product marketing, go-to-market strategy, market research, consumer startups, grocery/retail, and growth.

You will work directly with the founder and collaborate with product, engineering, design, social media, and partnerships-focused team members to help Prox communicate its value clearly and turn product features into messaging that users understand and care about.

This role is especially valuable for someone interested in startups, consumer technology, grocery/retail, marketplace products, CPG brands, product positioning, partnerships, and early-stage go-to-market strategy.

Responsibilities
• Help define and improve Prox’s product marketing messaging across the mobile app, website, landing pages, App Store materials, social content, emails, and user onboarding.
• Conduct market research on grocery savings apps, retail technology, price comparison tools, deal discovery platforms, pantry apps, CPG brands, and consumer shopping behavior.
• Support go-to-market strategy for new Prox features such as weekly deals, cart comparison, deal maps, receipt scanning, pantry tracking, price alerts, and personalized grocery recommendations.
• Translate Prox product features into simple consumer benefits, such as helping users understand how much they can save, where to shop, and why Prox is useful.
• Develop user personas and customer segments, such as budget-conscious shoppers, families, college students, deal hunters, and frequent grocery shoppers.
• Create competitive research summaries on companies like Ibotta, Fetch, Upside, Flipp, Basket, Instacart, Walmart, Kroger, and other grocery/retail platforms.
• Assist with partnership discussion materials for potential partners, including local grocers, CPG brands, affiliate partners, creators, rewards platforms, and retail technology companies.
• Help create pitch materials, one-pagers, talking points, and positioning documents that explain Prox’s value to users, partners, and potential investors.
• Work with the social media team to turn Prox’s product value into clear TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, email, and blog content ideas.
• Analyze user feedback, app flows, onboarding screens, and marketing copy to identify where users may be confused or dropping off.
• Collaborate directly with the founder on product messaging, launch planning, market positioning, and growth strategy as Prox continues to build from the ground up.

Qualifications
• Strong interest in product marketing, startups, consumer technology, grocery/retail, marketplaces, CPG brands, or savings-focused products.
• Ability to think clearly about what users care about and how to explain a product in simple, compelling language.
• Strong writing and research skills.
• Interest in understanding consumer behavior, competitive positioning, and go-to-market strategy.
• Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment where priorities may evolve quickly.
• Ability to take ownership of projects, ask thoughtful questions, and turn unclear ideas into organized outputs.

Required Skills
• Strong written communication skills.
• Ability to conduct market research and summarize findings clearly.
• Comfort creating messaging, positioning, pitch materials, and simple strategy documents.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to think from both a customer perspective and a business perspective.
• Comfort using tools such as Google Docs, Notion, Figma, Canva, spreadsheets, LinkedIn, or similar platforms.
• Willingness to learn quickly and contribute across product, marketing, growth, and partnerships.

Preferred Skills
• Experience with product marketing, marketing strategy, market research, startups, consumer apps, partnerships, retail, grocery, CPG, or social media is a plus.
• Experience creating pitch decks, one-pagers, landing page copy, App Store copy, user personas, competitive research, or go-to-market plans is a plus.
• Familiarity with tools like Figma, Canva, Notion, Google Analytics, Firebase, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, or email marketing tools is a plus.
• Interest in grocery savings, price transparency, retail strategy, consumer shopping behavior, AI tools, or marketplace products is also a plus.

Pay range and compensation package
This is an unpaid internship. School credit may be available depending on your university’s requirements.
