Student Advocacy and Outreach Specialist for No Cost / Low-Cost Textbooks

The Office of Faculty Development and Educational Initiatives is seeking an intern with excellent communication and organization skills to assist with educating Salt Lake Community College students regarding the Open Educational Resources options offered at SLCC.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Assist the department with educating SLCC students regarding the Open Educational Resource (OER) Initiative

• Assist in creating a communication campaign to educate SLCC students regarding the No Cost / Low-Cost Textbook options
• Teach SLCC students how to find No-Cost/ Low-Cost textbook courses
• Assist with OER event planning and hosting OER Information tables
• Distribute flyers and posters across all SLCC campus locations
• Collaborate with internal SLCC departments to schedule student outreach events
• Pitch creative outreach and marketing ideas
• Work in partnership with the OPEN SLCC team by offering a student perspective to Open Educational Resources
• Provide feedback and suggestions regarding the current web page and marketing materials
• Learn the basic principles of Open Educational Resource

Minimum Qualifications

SLCC student -

GPA 2.0 or higher

Currently enrolled in 6 credit hours for fall semester.

Currently enrolled in 6 credit hours for spring semester.

Awarded Federal Work Study program

Completed the FAFSA.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to organize, prioritize and execute tasks
• 6 months of experience working in an office environment
• Research skills
• Presentation skills
