Internship Details

Savion is seeking a self-starting and highly motivated undergraduate or graduate student to fill a Development Project Controls Intern position. The position will start in early April 2026 and end in late September 2026 with the possibility to extend the duration through December 2026.

The candidate will complete a variety of procurement, budgeting, scheduling, and analysis tasks while being trained and mentored by our team of development and project controls experts. This position is open to all qualified individuals who desire to work at Savion’s dynamic development team in our Kansas City office.

During your internship, you’ll gain more insight into the industry, develop real-world organizational-based experience that you can add to your resume, and begin to create a network of contacts.

Position Responsibilities

The candidate will report to the Manager, Project Controls who is heavily involved in Savion’s development strategy related to its existing and proposed utility-scale solar, energy storage, and datacenter projects. The candidate will be part of the Project Controls Team (PCT) and assist in executing their objective of delivering high quality project data, forecasts, and timelines that add value and drive decisions. This experience will provide the candidate with the opportunity to interact daily with Savion’s numerous subject matter experts in accounting, portfolio management, real estate, environmental & permitting, engineering, origination, finance, GIS, procurement, etc., and gain exposure to project development activities, with opportunities to attend and assist at project information meetings, public hearings, and other community events, if desired.

Key Responsibilities

• Support vendor onboarding and compliance checks
• Assist with third-party contract execution
• Enter purchase requisitions for approved work and track their progress through the approval workflow
• Work with the accounts payable team to troubleshoot invoicing issues.
• Update project budget forecasts and schedules based on guidance from project managers.
• Assist in preparing cost reports and variance analysis to identify trends and potential risks.
• Perform various data validation and quality checks aimed at maintaining accuracy across project controls systems.


Position Requirements

• Currently enrolled as at least junior-level undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Business Analytics, or Information Systems.
• Preference given to candidates with coursework or an emphasis in renewable energy.
• A minimum GPA of 3.0
• Working knowledge of Microsoft software -Excel, Word, Power-Point, etc. is required.
• Working knowledge of Power BI is highly preferred.
• Must have good analytical, decision-making, communication, creative problem-solving, and human relations skills.
• Must be organized, self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and in group settings.
• Leadership traits are key; must have the drive to learn how to successfully lead cross-functional and dynamic project teams in a matrix organization


Location

Hybrid: Kansas City Missouri – Headquarters with monthly stipend for relocation to Kansas City for the duration of the summer internship
