The Virginia Club of New York seeks a Strategic Engagement Summer Intern to support the Club’s communications, programming, and member engagement initiatives. The intern will help develop content for social media, newsletters, and the Club website while contributing to projects that strengthen engagement among our community of more than 10,000 University of Virginia alumni, family members, and friends primarily based in the tri-state area.
This role is designed for a student interested in nonprofit leadership, alumni engagement, communications strategy, and event programming. The intern will have the opportunity to work on both short-term initiatives and longer-term projects that support the Club’s ongoing growth and programming efforts.
The intern will report directly to Virginia Club of New York Executive Director Loretta Dredger (CLAS ’25) and will work closely with members of the Virginia Club Executive Board.
Term and Hours:
8-week internship, 4 days per week (Monday - Thursday), 10 am to 4 pm (in-person). Start date is flexible within the summer months (starting after May 30 and ending by August 21). You'll have shared office space in the Yale Club with the Executive Director.
Compensation:
This internship is unpaid. A small reimbursement stipend will be provided to help offset travel and living expenses in New York City, should you need to travel to come in-person during the internship. Lunch is provided on days you are in the office.
Goals and Responsibilities:
The intern will support the Virginia Club of New York’s engagement strategy across three primary areas: events, communications, and membership development. Ideal candidates will be intellectually curious, entrepreneurial, and excited to contribute ideas that shape the future programming and engagement strategy of the Virginia Club of New York.
Core responsibilities will include contributing to the planning and execution of summer and fall programming, supporting content creation for the Club’s newsletter and social media platforms, and assisting with initiatives that strengthen member engagement and external partnerships. The intern will help develop systems and processes that improve consistency across communications and event follow-up, while identifying opportunities to enhance the overall member experience.
Additional responsibilities may include administrative support related to event logistics, collaboration with University of Virginia partners, and research projects that advance the Club’s long-term strategic goals.
Desired Competencies and Attributes:
• Current University of Virginia student (preferably rising second or third year)
• Experience with strategic social media content creation, event planning, data analysis, and/or platforms such as Canva, Emma or Mailchimp, and Google Sheets or Excel
