Remote Internship: Marketing Research & Strategy (West Coast / PST Only)
Location: 100% Remote (Must reside in the West Coast / PST Timezone)
Duration: 30 to 60 days (Possible extension based on performance)
Compensation: Unpaid / For Experience or College Credit
⚠️ MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
• Work Authorization & Location: This position is open only to candidates currently authorized to work in the United States who reside on the West Coast (PST). We cannot provide visa endorsements or sponsorship (including F-1 OPT/STEM OPT) at this time.
• Portfolio / Proof of Work: To be considered, you must provide evidence of prior research or strategic writing, preferably linked within your resume. A market analysis, a competitive teardown, a consulting-style case deck, a research paper, or a class capstone all count. This is the primary basis for selection, so send your strongest analytical work rather than your broadest sample. We are looking for candidates who can turn messy information into a clear recommendation.
• Real life experience with military relocations/military family.
About HomeHudl
HomeHudl is a PropTech startup redefining the real estate experience through dynamic matching technology. We believe finding a real estate partner should be data-driven and personality-aligned, not left to chance. We are building the tools to make this matching process seamless for home buyers, sellers, and agents alike, with an early focus on relocating families in the military community.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a curious, rigorous Marketing Research & Strategy Intern to answer a question we have not fully answered ourselves: who exactly should we be reaching, where do they already are, and what is the most efficient path to them.
Your output is not a series of posts. It is a defensible go-to-market plan that the founders will actually use to allocate budget and attention. You will work directly with the founders and our Project Manager, and you will be expected to argue for your conclusions rather than just present options.
Because HomeHudl is a two-sided marketplace, your work covers two distinct research problems. On the consumer side, relocating families who need an agent. On the supply side, the agents worth matching them with. These audiences do not share channels, language, or buying triggers, and part of your job is proving how they differ.
What You Will Do
Phase One: Research
• Market Sizing: Estimate the addressable market for both sides, with your assumptions stated and your sources cited. We would rather see a defensible range than a confident wrong number.
• Competitive Landscape: Map who else is competing for these users, how they position, what they charge, and where they are vulnerable.
• Audience Research: Build evidence-backed profiles of our target segments. What triggers the search, what they fear, what language they use, and where they already spend attention. Primary research (interviews, forums, surveys) is strongly encouraged.
• Channel Assessment: Evaluate channels on reach, cost, credibility, and fit. Include the ones we should reject and explain why.
Phase Two: The Plan
• Positioning & Messaging: Recommend a core positioning statement and the message hierarchy for each audience.
• Channel Strategy: A prioritized sequence with rationale. What we do first, what we do only after something is proven.
• Budget Model: Recommended allocation with expected cost per acquisition and the assumptions behind it.
• Measurement Framework: The metrics that would tell us the plan is working, and the leading indicators that would tell us early.
• Executive Presentation: Present and defend the plan to the founders.
Throughout
• AI-Assisted Research: Familiarity using Claude to synthesize sources, pressure-test assumptions, or draft and refine analysis is a big plus. We care that you can tell a real finding from a plausible-sounding one.
Who You Are
• Aspiring Professional: A student or recent graduate in marketing, business, economics, communications, or a related field, looking for high-impact experience in a tech startup.
• Rigorous Thinker: You cite sources. You distinguish what you found from what you assumed. You are comfortable saying a question cannot be answered with the data available.
• Clear Writer: You can compress a week of research into one page a busy founder will actually read.
• Self-Directed: This is a remote role with a broad mandate and a short clock. You will need to scope your own work between syncs.
• PST Synchronized & Flexible: You are located on the West Coast and available for our mandatory weekly sync on Thursdays from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM PST. Outside of this, we offer flexible hours.
• Bonus: Familiarity with military relocation (PCS) culture, the real estate industry, or two-sided marketplace dynamics.
What You Will Walk Away WithThis is a short, deliverable-focused engagement, structured so you leave with work you can show:
• A complete market research report with cited sources and stated methodology.
• A full go-to-market plan with positioning, channel strategy, budget model, and measurement framework.
• Experience presenting and defending strategic work directly to founders.
• A reference reflecting the specific quality of your analysis.
The Interview ProcessWe do not assign unpaid take-home projects. Our process is built entirely around the work you have already done.
• Portfolio Screen: Initial review of your prior research or strategic writing.
• Discovery Sync: A 15-minute remote call to discuss your goals and our vision.
• Portfolio Walkthrough: A conversation with the founders where you present one piece of your own past work. Expect us to ask how you scoped the question, where your data came from, what you would do differently, and what you got wrong. We also use this time to discuss remote culture fit.
HomeHudl is an equal opportunity organization. We evaluate every applicant on the strength of their work and their thinking.
