Internship Description

Wholesale Commercial Insurance Broker;

National – Digital First Platform – Real Time Rate, Quote & Bind

The Operations Analyst Intern will gain hands-on experience inside a fast-growing, digitally-enabled wholesale commercial insurance brokerage. This individual will support the operations team across both iBynd and SEMSEE, contributing to day-to-day workflows, data analysis, process documentation, and cross-functional projects. This is a structured 10-week program designed to give an early-career professional a real view into insurance operations, technology, and the wholesale brokerage model — with meaningful work, consistent mentorship, and a defined capstone project to present at the end of the program.

Duties And Responsibilities

OPERATIONS SUPPORT

• Assist with day-to-day operational workflows including submission tracking, policy data entry, document management, and carrier correspondence
• Support the operations team in maintaining accurate records across the agency management system (AMS), CRM, and carrier portals
• Help compile and organize weekly operational reports, carrier data, and pipeline tracking updates for team review
• Assist with onboarding-related tasks as new agents and brokers are added to the platform, ensuring accurate setup and data completeness

DATA ANALYSIS & REPORTING

• Collect, clean, and organize data from multiple internal systems to support operational reporting and business analysis
• Assist in building and maintaining dashboards or tracking sheets that monitor key operational metrics including submission volume, bind rates, and agent activity
• Conduct research and analysis as directed — including carrier appetite summaries, market research, or competitive comparisons — and present findings in a clear, organized format
• Identify data discrepancies or process gaps and flag them to the operations team with supporting documentation

PROCESS DOCUMENTATION & IMPROVEMENT

• Shadow operations team members to observe and learn existing workflows, then assist in documenting processes in clear, step-by-step standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Identify opportunities for operational efficiency improvements and present findings to the operations manager with supporting data
• Support the development of internal training materials, reference guides, or workflow templates as needed
• Assist with special projects and cross-functional initiatives as assigned by the Operations Manager or HR team

CAPSTONE PROJECT

• Complete a defined 6–8 week capstone project with a specific scope, deliverable, and success criteria agreed upon at the start of the program
• Example project areas may include: carrier appetite matrix documentation, process automation research, KPI dashboard build, agent onboarding workflow analysis, or submission data audit
• Present the completed capstone project to 2–3 members of the iBynd × SEMSEE leadership team during the final week of the program
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

REQUIRED

• Currently enrolled as a college sophomore, junior, or senior in good academic standing — majoring in Business, Finance, Data Analytics, Risk Management, Operations, or a related field
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills — able to manage data accurately and track multiple tasks simultaneously
• Proficiency with Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides) or Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote or hybrid environment and meet weekly deadlines with minimal supervision
• Genuine curiosity about insurance, financial services, technology, or business operations

Preferred

• Prior internship, part-time work, or academic project experience in a business, data, or operations context
• Familiarity with data analysis concepts — ability to build basic formulas, pivot tables, or charts in Excel or Google Sheets
• Interest in the wholesale insurance, insurtech, or financial services industry — prior exposure through coursework, family, or work is a plus
• Experience with or exposure to CRM systems, project management tools (Asana, Jira), or data visualization platforms
• If pursuing an unpaid internship option, student must confirm academic credit eligibility with their institution prior to start
