Overview:
The Fargo Park District has a robust marketing and communications calendar in the summer season, May-August. Candidates will work on various projects to promote the park district activities in the following departments: Courts Plus, Events, Fargo Parks Sports Center, Forestry, Golf, Parks, Recreation, and Valley Senior Services.
The Marketing & Graphic Design Intern will gain hands-on experience creating visual assets that support Fargo Park District events, programs, and community initiatives. This role focuses on graphic design and visual communication while also supporting community engagement efforts, social media, and content creation.
A successful candidate has a strong interest in design, visual storytelling, and branding, is detail-oriented, and is excited to apply creative skills in a real-world, community-focused environment.
Job Description:
Responsibilities may include the following:
• Design visual marketing materials including event signage, posters, flyers, social media graphics, and digital assets in alignment with Fargo Park District brand guidelines.
• Assist with the creation of on-brand graphics for Fargo Park District sub-brand social media accounts at the direction of the Marketing Communications Specialists.
• Support the planning and implementation of community engagement activities at public events, including tabling events, and interact with community members.
• Capture engaging photos and videos to support promotional and marketing efforts.
• Assist with photo and video editing to support social media, digital marketing, and internal communication needs.
• Support general marketing initiatives and campaigns across Fargo Park District departments.
• Assist in updating and editing website content as directed by the Marketing Communications Specialist.
• Ensure visual consistency and quality across all creative materials by following established brand guidelines.
• Gain experience producing real-world, portfolio-ready design work for a public-facing organization.
• Receive feedback and mentorship from experienced marketing and design professionals.
• Contribute creative ideas and design solutions while learning to work within established brand systems.
• Learn how design decisions translate to real-world production, including print, signage, and public-facing installations.
Qualifications:
Required Experience:
• Pursuing or having completed a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Digital Media, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
• Experience with design programs including Adobe Creative Suite and Canva is preferred.
• Strong visual design skills with an eye for layout, typography, and detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with confidence interacting with the public.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and switch between creative and engagement tasks.
• Ability to actively participate as a team member in a collaborative environment.
• Experience with photo and video editing tools, including Photoshop and Premiere Pro, is preferred.
