Civil Engineering Intern

Varies | Flexible Schedule Based on Academic Commitments

Are you a curious, detail-oriented civil engineering student ready to apply classroom knowledge to real infrastructure projects while solving problems and working collaboratively?

What You'll Do

Gain hands-on experience working alongside licensed Professional Engineers on projects that support Fort Wayne's utility infrastructure. This internship combines office and field work, giving exposure to projects from early planning through construction while learning about water, sewer, stormwater systems, and sustainable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities


• Assist with planning, design, and field verification for civil engineering projects

• Collect, analyze, and document field data using surveys and GPS technology

• Support preparation of reports, recommendations, and quantity take-offs

• Map stormwater sheds and analyze water main breaks and sewer hydraulics

• Complete required City training modules and assist with research


What You Bring – Education & Experience


• Pursuing a Civil Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program

• Minimum of two years of college coursework completed

• Interest in public infrastructure and applied engineering experience


Preferred Certifications


• Valid Indiana Driver's License, or

• Valid driver's license with a certified driving record if operating a City vehicle


Technical Skills & Knowledge


• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering data

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Comfort with measurements, data collection, and basic analysis

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt as project priorities shift
