Job Description

General Description

The Community Relations Intern will support the Government Relations/Access & Community Engagement Departments day-to-day operations while gaining valuable experience in the field. This internship will include opportunities to work with multiple departments, thus this role requires someone who is creative, enjoys challenges, and is an effective communicator. Excellent writing and public speaking skills are a plus.

The duration of the internship is eight (8) weeks but requires 25 hours per week. This is a paid summer internship for undergraduate students in the state of Michigan.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

• Research and draft talking points around community engagement.
• Escort government officials and other guests as needed.
• Interact with staff, volunteers, guests and vendors on assigned work.
• Communicate pertinent information both internally and externally, as required.
• Other administrative duties as assigned.



Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Current enrollment as a college undergraduate student.
• Work experience in customer service or nonprofits preferred.



Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Outstanding organizational and time management skills.



Working Conditions

Regular work schedules may include weekends, occasional evenings or early-mornings. The work environment is predominantly indoors, but may require work outdoors with exposure to seasonal weather conditions for special events, tours, openings, etc.

Physical Requirements

Requires moderate physical effort such as moving, bending, stooping and standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and move 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
