Lyon Arboretum is hiring paid summer interns for Summer 2026! We are combining two internship programs into one posting. Please review both sections below to determine which opportunity is the best fit for you.

Lyon Arboretum / Friends of Lyon Summer Internship Program (Multiple Departments)
This 10-week paid internship offers hands-on experience in conservation, education, horticulture, and grounds management within a cohort-based learning environment.
Available Departments
• Education (1 position)
• Horticulture (1 position)
• Hawaiian Rare Plant Program (2 positions)
• Grounds (2 positions)
Interns are placed in one primary department while participating in rotations, group activities, field trips, and a final presentation.
Program Details
• Dates: June 2 – August 7, 2026 (10 weeks)
• Schedule: Monday–Thursday, full 8-hour days
• Award: $3,250 (paid in two installments)
• Eligibility:
• Must be 18+ by program start
• High school graduates, current/recent college students, and others interested in conservation are encouraged to apply
• UH System students preferred (housing not provided), but out-of-state students are welcome to apply.

Lyon Arboretum Summer Trails Intern Program (4 Positions)
This physically active internship focuses on trail building and maintenance across Lyon Arboretum’s 8+ miles of trails. Interns gain practical outdoor and construction skills while improving visitor access to the Arboretum.
Key Responsibilities
• Trail repair and construction
• Clearing, grading, leveling, and graveling trails
• Installing trail signage
• Working in outdoor and wet conditions
Program Details
• Dates: June 2 – August 7, 2026
• Schedule: Tuesday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:15 PM
• Award: $3,500 (paid in two installments)
Requirements:
• Must be 18+
• Valid Hawaiʻi State Driver’s License
• Able to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors
• Interest in hiking, trails, or construction (experience preferred)
