Job Description

The Metropolitan District is a non-profit municipal corporation chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929 to provide potable water and sewerage services on a regional basis. Today, the MDC provides quality water supply, water pollution control, mapping, and household hazardous waste collection to eight member municipalities - Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor - and to portions of other towns in the region.

The Chief Administrative Office (CAO) is looking to hire a full-time (37.5 hours/week) college intern for the MDC's summer internship program.

This intern will work at the company's headquarters building in Hartford.

The program will begin on June 1, 2026, and run through July 31, 2026

DUTIES

The purpose of this position is to assist the Chief Administrative Officer and staff in supporting the daily operations of the business services departments of the organization including: Customer Service, Finance, Information Technology, and Procurement.

Tasks May Include

• Participating in cross functional business process improvement initiatives
• Shadowing the Chief Administrative Officer and providing input on projects
• Conducting user acceptance testing for the customer service payment portal upgrade
• Working with department staff on developing job aides and documenting new business processes
• Planning the department-wide document retention/destruction project
• Compiling data for CAO reporting requirements including monthly department reporting and quarterly supplier spend reporting.


Qualifications

College student pursuing a B.A., B.S., or an Associates' degree, preferably in Business Administration and/or related fields such as Public Administration, Finance, Management, Marketing, Business Systems, or Communications. Computer skills in Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
