Job Description

Summit Sports & Social is precisely what the name says, we offer sports and social events and
programming in Northeast Ohio. We focus on adult sports and recreational leagues including
kickball, Spikeball, indoor volleyball, and we operate a 4-court sand volleyball complex in the heart of
downtown Akron. We are a growing business that is looking for creative and dedicated individuals
who want to design, market, and oversee new recreational/programmatic concepts to complement
the recent growth our business has experienced. This role is perfect for any and all applicants who
want to test ideas, learn from failure, network with folks from all walks of life, and gain true “real
world” experience working in sports and recreation.


Responsibilities:
● Understand the overall concept and objectives of the organization, including the brand,
customer, programming goals, and all other aspects of services.
● Rotate through our divisions of responsibility and provide ideas to grow and improve the
business.
● Accepts designated, business-focus projects to research, propose ideas and solutions
and present final projects during the internship.
● Engages with customers or clients and provides service and/or sales.
● Provide suggestions to management for improving customer service and internal
processes.
● Learns and becomes proficient with our internal systems
● Assists in creating performance reports.


Hours & Time Commitment: The nature of our business requires evening and some weekend
work. Recreation by nature occurs at a time where most people are out of work which means our
schedule requires team members to be accessible between 5pm-10pm. In the past year, we have
designed our internship into two different workflows: on-site facility management/coordination along
with new program planning/marketing.


Intern Qualifications / Skills:
● Verbal communication
● Familiarity with Google GSuite tools (Sheets, Docs, etc.)
● Organization and Scheduling
● Professionalism
● Customer-focused
● Reliable transportation to Akron/Medina
● Social Media and/or experience with platforms such as WordPress is a bonus
Education / Experience:
● Juniors & Senior Collegiate Students
● Prior industry experience is preferred but not required. Below is an example of what a 20-hour per week internship could look like. We want to stress that we like to tailor the internship experience to the candidates and are flexible about how we design the
overall structure.
● Monday: Sports Coordinator, Sand Volleyball 5:30pm-10:00pm: Sports coordinators are
the most important aspect of Summit Sports and Social. They run the show. Sports
coordinators organize matches, record scores, answer questions, create fire playlists,
and ensure that our participants are having the most possible amount of fun.
● Tuesday: New Program/Event Planning- Remote or in our office at Pinnacle Sports:
This time would be spent researching ways to grow our current offerings, diverse
events that are successful in other cities, marketing opportunities, external sales to
corporations, and this would all work towards a capstone project for the end of the
internship.
● Wednesday: Off or TBD
● Thursday: Sports Coordinator Kickball or Sand Volleyball 5:00pm-10:00pm: Sports
coordinators are the most important aspect of Summit Sports and Social. They run the
show. Sports coordinators organize matches, record scores, answer questions, create
fire playlists, and ensure that our participants are having the most possible amount of
fun.
● Friday: New Program/Event Planning- Remote or in our office at Pinnacle Sports: This
time would be spent researching ways to grow our current offerings, diverse events that
