Position Description
This position will assist engineering personnel within the Office of Bridge Design with various duties relating to design, construction engineering, inspection support and load rating of structures. The Office of Bridge Design is responsible for the design, construction engineering support, and rehabilitation of all structures on the state highway system. Interns will further their knowledge and abilities and gain valuable experience in the civil engineering field dealing specifically with highway structures. This is primarily an office position with occasional field trips.
Coursework in structural analysis, steel design and concrete design is beneficial but is not required.
Qualifications
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
