What does the internship program entail?
The Site Reliability Engineering Summer Internship offers hands-on experience supporting infrastructure monitoring and observability for global, missioncritical systems. As an intern, you’ll work closely with the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team to help improve system reliability, automation, and data workflows in Unix-based environments.
This is a real-world engineering internship where you’ll contribute to production systems and gain exposure to how reliability is engineered at scale.
Throughout the program, you’ll support and enhance global monitoring and observability platforms, including tools such as Netcool and NNMi, while assisting with product deployments and operational readiness. You’ll partner directly with a lead engineer to manage tasks and projects focused on:
• Monitoring and observability improvements
• Backend automation
• Data workflows and reliability insights
You’ll also contribute to data cleansing, backend automation, and cross-system integrations, using technologies such as SQL and Python, helping ensure monitoring data is accurate, actionable, and scalable.
You’ll collaborate with multiple operations teams including GSOC and Network Services (NS) to help triage and resolve monitoring-related issues. This gives you exposure to how engineering, operations, and incident response work together to keep systems running reliably around the clock.
In addition to core responsibilities, you may contribute to special projects that align with your interests and the team’s priorities, giving you broader visibility into SRE practices and tooling.
By the end of the internship, you’ll have:
• Hands-on experience supporting global production systems
• Exposure to site reliability engineering, observability, and automation
• Practical experience working in Unix environments with real data and real users
• Mentorship from experienced engineers and insight into how reliability challenges are solved at scale
How You Will Make an Impact:
• Show Your Enthusiasm: Your motivation and eagerness to learn will bring positive energy to our team.
• Take Initiative: Don’t be afraid to propose new ideas and solutions. Your fresh perspective can make a real difference.
• Collaborate Actively: Work closely with your teammates, sharing insights and supporting each other to achieve common goals.
• Be Proactive: Ask questions and seek opportunities to take on new tasks and challenges.
• Demonstrate Commitment: Show your dedication to the projects you work on, contributing your best effort.
• Enhance Team Dynamics: Your positive attitude and willingness to help will foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
