Overview

The CB&I Internship Program in our HSES team is designed to provide junior and senior level students and aspiring safety professionals hands on experience in a professional construction environment. While prior job experience is not required, candidates must have a high GPA and basic Safety and Health knowledge with supplemental skills in computer programs and OSHA. Interns will learn the responsibilities of a safety professional under the supervision of experienced safety specialist. Successful candidates will demonstrate characteristics and perspectives that contribute to a diverse, growing organization.

Responsibilities

• Apply industry codes & standards along with internal CB&I plans, policies, & procedures while conducting daily or weekly site walkthroughs to identify hazards, inspect machinery, check PPE compliance, and ensure adherence to safety standards.
• Evaluate workplace ergonomics to identify risks for musculoskeletal injuries and recommend corrective measures.
• Develop and deliver safety presentations, orientations, and educational materials for employees.
• Update safety records, analyzing incident trends, tracking near-misses, and assisting with report preparation for regulatory compliance.
• Assist with Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), risk assessments, and developing corrective actions to mitigate hazards.
• Support the investigation process for accidents to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
• Assist in creating safety performance reports and dashboards for management
• Attend and provide input during monthly safety committee meetings and other cross-departmental safety sessions.
• Update and maintain safety procedures, manuals, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and compliance records
• Monitor and track the repair of safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) inventory.
• Assist in preparing for external audits and ensuring that the site complies with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
• Become familiar with facility environmental permitting requirements.
• Develop and implement safety awareness campaigns and educational outreach materials for employees.
• Attend and provide input during monthly safety committee meetings and other cross-departmental safety sessions.


Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an safety professional program towards Occupational Safety Degree (or similar degree program) with minimum 2.5 GPA (overall)
• Junior or Senior with at least one upper-level design course applicable to our work
• Motivated & outgoing individuals with expressed interest in subjects related to CB&I’s business
• Recognized leadership potential
• Willingness to learn new skills
• Flexible schedule and ability to travel


Organizational Level: N5+

• Reports to: HSES lead and or Area Safety Manager
• Permanent work location: Regional Office / Shop
