Facilities Management Intern — Moat Systems Inc
Location: American Fork, UT (Alpine School District) · Ogden, UT (as needed)
Type: Summer Contract (Full-Time) | Duration: May–August | $18+/hr
About the Role
Moat is building the AI-powered operating system for facilities management — helping schools and institutions eliminate paper binders, automate preventive maintenance, and make smarter capital planning decisions with real data.
As a Facilities Management Intern, you'll apply your FM coursework in a real-world, field-based setting. You'll walk school buildings — mechanical rooms, rooftops, utility spaces — and bring every piece of critical infrastructure online in Moat. The data you capture powers our AI extraction engine, drives automated maintenance schedules, and gives facility directors a real-time picture of their building health for the first time.
This is a hands-on internship at a fast-moving startup where your FM knowledge directly shapes the product. You'll see your work reflected in the platform the same day you do it.
Why This Role Matters
Every asset you document becomes a living digital record — automatically linked to OEM manuals, maintenance histories, warranty data, and AI-generated service schedules. You're not just inventorying equipment — you're building the data layer that makes an entire school district's operations intelligent.
What You'll Learn & Do
• Apply FM principles in a real institutional setting (K–12 school facilities)
• Conduct physical asset inventories across mechanical, electrical, and building systems: HVAC equipment (RTUs, air handlers, boilers, chillers), electrical equipment (panels, transformers, generators), appliances, and other major fixed units
• Follow the Moat asset documentation workflow: photograph equipment nameplates, enter metadata, verify AI-extracted data, and print/affix QR code labels
• Attach OEM manuals to assets — feeding the knowledge base our AI uses to generate maintenance plans
• Gain exposure to CMMS/asset management software and how AI is reshaping FM operations
• Coordinate with facility managers and custodial staff on-site
• Contribute to capital planning data that real clients use to make budget decisions
Qualifications
Required:
• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management or related field.
• Comfortable working around heavy machinery and mechanical/electrical equipment
• Detail-oriented — data accuracy feeds directly into AI models and automated workflows
• Reliable transportation to job sites in the American Fork / Alpine School District area
• Physically capable of walking large facilities, climbing ladders, and possibly working in tight or elevated spaces
Preferred:
• Background in facilities management, HVAC, electrical, or building maintenance
• Experience with asset management, inventory, or field data collection tools
• Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet for data entry
• Prior experience in schools, government, or commercial facilities
• Curiosity about how AI and software are transforming legacy industries
Working Conditions
Primarily outdoor and indoor mechanical spaces — expect dust, heat, and noise. Must be comfortable on ladders and in utility/mechanical rooms. PPE (hard hat) may be required on certain sites (provided by Moat). Driving between school sites is expected; occasional travel to Ogden may be required.
