Job Responsibilities

As a Land Survey Office Intern, you will work within the Project Delivery & Engineering Branch (PDEB) to support essential municipal surveying operations. You will bridge the gap between field data and final deliverables, gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle.

Technical Data Processing & Analysis

• Software Application: Utilize Civil 3D for introductory drafting and technical design tasks.
• Advanced Technology: Assist with 3D point cloud processing and data management from Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) and terrestrial scanning.
• Data Workflows: Learn and apply rigorous data processing workflows with a high attention to detail.


Project Support & Records

• Survey Records: Assist in the organization and analysis of survey records, control networks, and boundary surveying data.
• Project Management: Apply data management skills to complex survey projects to ensure organized and accurate project delivery.
• Technical Teamwork: Collaborate with the Land Survey Office team to communicate technical findings and progress.


Learning Objectives:

Through this role, you will develop the technical and professional foundation necessary for a career in geomatics. By the conclusion of this term, you will have:

• Developed a strong grasp of surveying fundamentals and technical proficiency in industry-standard software.
• Gained "hands-on" experience with the full survey lifecycle, from field data collection to final drafting.
• Deepened your knowledge of boundary surveying, legal descriptions, and coordinate systems.


Built a professional mentorship foundation for a career pathway toward becoming a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS).

Qualifications

• Education: Currently enrolled in a Land Surveying, Geomatics, or related program.
• Grade Level: Open to students from Freshman through Graduate levels.
• Preferred Skills: Completed introductory coursework in Civil 3D and familiarity with Leica or Trimble Business Center.
• Attributes: A positive attitude toward learning and a high attention to detail.
• Experience: Previous employment or internship experience with a land surveying company is preferred but not required.
• Exception: Students are not required to be enrolled during summer sessions but must provide documentation of continued Fall enrollment.
• Undergraduate students are required to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, and graduate students a minimum GPA of 3.0, throughout the duration of the internship.


Additional Information

• Hours: Up to 40 hours per week. Work is generally performed Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
• Duration: This is a 1 year internship opportunity.
• Location: Primary worksite is the Seattle Municipal Tower (SMT).
• Salary: Full salary range for this internship is
• Undergrad - $22.56 - $22.56 an hour.
• Graduate Students - $27.67 - $27.67 an hour.
