About The Royalty Law Firm
The Royalty Law Firm, PLLC is a boutique music law firm on a mission to redefine what it means to be a modern law firm. Publicly, we brand ourselves as "the first firm built for music producers," because in a market this competitive, niching down is the cleanest marketing strategy. In practice, we handle the full range of music industry work. We negotiate with the biggest artists and music companies, recover millions in unpaid royalties, and fight to make sure our creatives are paid what they deserve.
While in law school, our founder built Producer Royalty, LLC into the leading master royalty administrator for producers, then leveraged that brand to lay the foundation for The Royalty Law Firm, PLLC. Much like Producer Royalty, we're building specifically for today's digital ecosystem and determined to become the most important name in producer-side representation.
The next few years are going to be a journey. We want someone who can help write our story.
The Opportunity
This isn't a regular summer internship. It's an opportunity to play a key role in a firm being built in real time. You'll work directly with the firm's founder every day drafting and reviewing deals with some of the biggest artists, labels, and publishing companies in the business. You'll sit in on and contribute to negotiations and client calls. You'll conduct legal research and analysis on issues that are seen everyday. You'll meet new people every day — labels, managers, publishers, lawyers, execs and creatives.
You'll also see the parts of running a firm most associates don't get near for years: how matters are scoped and priced, how the brand and content engine bring in the next client, how strategic partnerships are formed, what it takes to scale fast, etc.
This role is structured to convert into something more for the right person. We're not looking for a summer body. We're looking for someone we want to build with.
Your Average Week
• Reviewing music deals (producer, management, side-artist, publishing, recording, licensing, etc.)
• Client calls and negotiations
• Legal research and analysis
• Refining templates and systems
• Converting leads to clients
• Registering trademarks and copyrights
• Onboarding new clients
• Administrative and operational support
Who We're Looking For
The right person for this role can already point to real evidence of a music industry passion — coursework, prior internships, extracurriculars, content, anything. They can talk fluently about the basics concepts in the music industry. They love the process of redlining contracts. They want to grow with a firm rather than test a bit of everything. They move quickly, communicate clearly, and own their work.
If you are not committed to a career in the music industry, this is not the role for you. We mean that. It will save us both time.
How to Apply
Send the following to daniel@royaltylaw.com with the subject line "Summer Associate Application — [Your Name]":
• Resume — make your music industry experience and extracurriculars prominent
• Brief cover letter — tell us why The Royalty Law Firm specifically (not a generic entertainment internship), and what your long-term goals are
• Writing sample — a redline you've done is preferred; a deal memo, contract clause analysis, or traditional law school writing sample is also fine.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. We move quickly when we find the right person.
Hard deadline: June 1, 2026.
