Title: Securities Lending Operation Intern
Internship Duration: 40/week, 3 months, possible return offer
Location: New York, NY
Onsite policy: 5 days per week
Compensation: $3500 per month

Overview

The Securities Lending Trading Desk supports institutional and retail clients by providing borrow/loan solutions that enable short selling and liquidity across global markets. The team operates at the intersection of trading, financing, and post-trade operations, ensuring efficient execution, settlement, and risk management throughout the securities lending lifecycle.
This internship offers hands-on exposure to trading desk support and operational workflows within a fast-paced broker-dealer environment.


Responsibilities and Qualifications


We are looking for a candidate to work with the traders as a mid/back-office trade support. Candidate should have a basic knowledge of financial markets, specifically interest rates, trading, margin, short sell, and options. Candidate should have sufficient skill and experience with Python/VBA/SQL for analytical purposes. You will be working with internal and external clients across the world and working on multiple layers of business and projects.

Responsibilities
• Support the trading desk in daily securities lending activities, including borrows, recalls, returns, and buy-ins.
• Assist in monitoring short positions to ensure timely coverage and regulatory compliance (e.g., Reg SHO)
• Perform daily reconciliations across internal systems and external counterparties (DTC/DTCC, settlement banks)
• Analyze and validate trading, settlement, and position data, identifying breaks and resolving discrepancies
• Prepare and process end-of-day reports, including exposure, inventory, and funding metrics
• Contribute to process automation and optimization using Python, SQL, or VBA.
• Participate in ad hoc projects such as data analysis, reporting enhancements, and system testing.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Strong interest in financial markets, particularly equities, securities lending, and trading operations.
• Basic understanding of concepts such as short selling, margin, interest rates, and settlement processes
• Proficiency in Python/SQL/VBA for data analysis and automationStrong interpersonal skills and experience in a collaborative, team-based, result-oriented environment.
