Breaking News ABA is an independent newsroom covering Applied Behavior Analysis — the therapy field that serves autistic kids and adults, employs hundreds of thousands of clinicians, and is being reshaped right now by private equity, Medicaid policy, and a workforce crisis nobody outside the field is reporting on. We're the only outlet 100% dedicated to it.
We're hiring a paid journalism intern in the Lake Forest, IL area. This isn't a coffee-and-filing internship — you'll report and write real stories that publish under your byline, on a beat that actually matters. You don't need to know anything about ABA yet. You need to write clearly, learn fast, and hit a deadline.
What you'll do:
• Report and write news pieces and short features that publish with your name on them
• - Turn dense source material (research, regulatory filings, press releases) into tight, readable copy
• - Pitch your own story ideas — we want curiosity, not just task completion
• - Learn the beat: business/M&A, policy, clinical practice, and careers in ABA
What we're looking for:
• A strong writer — clips, student media, a blog, or a solid test piece all count
• - Curious, reliable, and able to meet a deadline without being chased
• - Currently a student or recent grad (journalism, comms, English, or just a great writer from any major)
• - Based in or near Lake Forest, IL and able to work in the office
The details:
• Paid internship: $18–$22/hour, based on experience
• - Part-time, ongoing. Lake Forest, IL. In-office preferred (no travel or event coverage required)
• - Work directly with the editor/founder — real mentorship, real bylines, real clips for your portfolio
