Overview

The Engineering Intern will be responsible for application of engineering principles to assist in manufacturing process optimization for production of a raw material for medical device development under the direction of an Engineer and manufacturing Assembly Supervisor. This position is a 10-12 week paid internship located on-site at MED Institute in West Lafayette Indiana. It is offered for a period extending from June through August 2026(exact dates depend on school calendars.) This position includes 401(k) options, and an assigned mentor. Working on-site, you will also have access to a fitness center. All internships provide hands-on experience with meaningful projects in the Medical Device Industry.

Responsibilities

• Interact with Engineers to plan, complete and report results of experiments, tests, literature surveys, etc., intended to optimize a manufacturing process for production of a raw material to be used for medical device development.
• Provide support to other team members upon request and where reasonable.
• Ask questions and learn about client expectations while driving toward scientific excellence.
• Work with engineers to define tasks.
• Follow procedures pertinent to tasks being performed.
• Ensure that appropriate documentation is kept detailing project history (reports, laboratory notebooks, invention disclosures, scientific literature, meeting notes, deliverables, etc.)


Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in Food Science, Marine Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or Bioengineering. Advanced undergraduate student (Junior/Senior) or early-stage Master's student preferred.
• Laboratory Skills : Experience with aseptic technique, bacterial culturing, and pipetting .
• Analytical Techniques : Familiarity with LAL (Limulus Amebocyte Lysate) assays or ELISA for endotoxin detection.
• Conscientious person with good work ethic.
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate the completion of deliverables and tasks.
• Teachable, positive attitude with a genuine willingness to learn and to help.
• Ability to effectively communicate and constructively collaborate with colleagues.
• Personal discipline.
• Ability to work with multiple persons and the multiple priorities that occur when each person has different needs.
• Ability to remain professional and positive in all personal interactions
