Description
The Purchasing Intern will provide administrative support to the Purchasing Department. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Assisting with agreements and contracts, maintaining contract and insurance files and equipment, vehicle and fuel cards lists, support credit card reconciliation, and provide vendor research on goods/services,
• Composing and typing miscellaneous correspondence, administrative filing, creating simple MS Excel spreadsheets and letters using MS Word.
• Performing other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Current enrollment in a full-time, accredited bachelor’s or graduate degree program and pursuing a degree in Business, Economics, Supply Chain or a related field, with a current GPA of 2.0 or higher. Must have at least one year remaining in school. Ability to work up to 25 hours a week. Basic understanding of modern business practices and procedures, business letter writing and elements of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, and mathematics. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others. A valid California Class “C” Driver’s License and proof of automobile insurance are required.
Internships intend to provide meaningful training and work experience for students pursuing academic studies related to the District’s mission and goals. Interns must submit proof of full-time enrollment, class schedules, and grades each semester/quarter. Interns are not eligible for employee benefits. Interns are “at-will” and can be terminated at the discretion of the Department Manager with or without cause and with or without prior notice. This is not a seasonal internship. Interns work year-round.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Environment: Standard office setting.
Physical: Positions in this class typically require fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. Incumbents require sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting; stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; operate office equipment including use of a computer keyboard; push, pull, lift, and/or carry light amounts of weight; verbally communicate to exchange information.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Supplemental Information
Schedule: We work around the intern's schedule. Working hours must be during regular hours, Monday to Friday between 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM. No weekends. This is a part-time internship. We are looking for interns who can work up to 20-25 hours/week.
Hourly Rate: Undergraduate: $20 per hour & Graduate: $25 per hour
