Internship Description

Hidden Stream Counseling is now accepting applications for a Mental Health Counseling Practicum and Internship position. This internship begins January/February 2027. Our private practice is located near Downtown Raleigh, and we see primarily teens, adults, and couples for therapy. This is an UNPAID position for obtaining educational credits.


Supervising Therapist is well regarded in the community and maintains a full client load and waitlist.  Counseling approach is primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) with a blend of Solution Focus, Reality Therapy, Imago theory, and Family Systems. Supervisor is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and desires to help people face challenges and succeed in ways that are meaningful to them.


We are dedicated to investing in the training of future therapists, and proactively promote our interns to help them meet their direct and indirect hours requirements. Our office suite features a dedicated Intern space, and our Village District location is close to public transportation and within walking distance of many amenities.


This position encompasses three (3) semesters; 1 for Practicum and 2 for Internship I and II, as needed to obtain credits for a Mental Health Counseling master’s degree. The ideal candidate MUST be available to work Tuesdays and Fridays between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Occasional Saturday hours may also be available or required.


We are seeking applicants that exhibit an eagerness to work and to learn through supervisor guidance and constructive feedback. Additionally, applicants should be:
·        Self-Motivated
·        Ambitious
·        Dedicated to the therapy process
·        Able to work independently, without “Hand holding”
·        Be willing to get out of their comfort zone, if needed, to work with all types of clients
·        Able to embrace clients from diverse backgrounds and demographics, including all races, religions, cultures, ages, genders, and sexual orientations
