About The Opportunity
Are you curious about how businesses make decisions, evaluate risk, and solve problems? Our High School Underwriting Internship provides students with an opportunity to explore the insurance industry and learn what a career in underwriting looks like.
This is a hands-on learning experience designed specifically for a high school student. With a commitment of approximately 3 hours per week, the intern will work alongside members of our underwriting team and learn about the insurance process.
No previous insurance experience is required—we’ll teach you!
What You’ll Learn
During the internship, you’ll have the opportunity to:
• Learn the basics of insurance and underwriting
• See how underwriters evaluate properties and other risks
• Learn how information is gathered to make underwriting decisions
• Assist with simple research and underwriting projects
• Learn about different types of properties and construction
• Gain experience using professional business tools and technology
• Observe how underwriting teams work with other departments
• Develop communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Learn about career opportunities within the insurance industry
What You May Work On
Depending on current projects, you may help with:
• Organizing information for underwriting projects
• Researching basic property or construction information
• Reviewing information for completeness
• Shadowing underwriting professionals
• Participating in educational activities related to insurance and risk
All assignments will be designed to provide meaningful learning opportunities while being appropriate for a high school internship.
