As a small, mission-driven newsroom, KGTX 7 News offers opportunities for hands-on experience across multiple aspects of news production. Team members collaborate closely to uphold high journalistic standards while highlighting issues that matter most to residents.
Role Description This on-site internship News Reporter role is based in League City, TX. The News Reporter intern will assist in researching, pitching, and developing local news stories across multiple beats, including community events, public safety, and local government. Daily tasks include gathering information from sources, conducting interviews, verifying facts, and writing clear, engaging news copy for broadcast and digital platforms. The intern will also help draft press releases, support social media and web updates, and collaborate with editors and producers to refine stories. This internship is designed to provide practical newsroom experience, mentorship from experienced journalists, and exposure to the full news production process.
Qualifications
• Candidates should possess skills in Reporting and Journalism, including source development and ethical news gathering.
• Candidates should possess skills in News Writing and Writing, with the ability to produce accurate and concise stories under deadline.
• Candidates should possess skills in creating and reviewing Press Releases, ensuring clarity and alignment with newsroom standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to work on-site in League City, TX, including occasional evenings or weekends as news requires.
• Coursework or prior experience in journalism, communications, or a related field is preferred.
• Familiarity with digital publishing tools, social media platforms, and basic audio/video recording is a plus.
• Demonstrated professionalism, curiosity about local issues, and willingness to learn from feedback.
