Dr. Murphy is a social and personality psychologist with a background in both clinical psychology and legal reasoning. He directs the Interpersonal Processes and Relationships lab, where he and his students study positive interpersonal processes, such as empathy and love, as well as broader topics related to friendships, romantic relationships, and other close relationships.
