Brian Gebhart earned his Ph.D. in history from Stony Brook University in New York. His dissertation examines the role that university professors and historians played in supporting German imperialism at the turn of the twentieth century by creating official narratives of German cultural superiority, especially in Eastern Europe. In a second field of research, he explores the history of German brewing in the same period as it became a professionalized and highly capitalized industry that circulated within an increasingly globalized imperial world. Brian has taught extensively on European and global history, from introductory to advanced-level undergraduate and graduate courses.
