Dr. Mohamed H. Hassan was born in Alexandria, Egypt, just minutes from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. He earned a Bachelors degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry and a Masters degree in Chemistry from Alexandria University. In the fall of 2018, he moved to Upstate New York to begin his Ph.D. in Chemistry at Clarkson University. His graduate research focused on metal-organic materials and their applications in electrocatalysis, chemical sensing, and environmental remediation. Upon graduating in the summer of 2023, Dr. Hassan joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. At Penn, his work centered on developing highly efficient cathode materials for Na-ion batteries. The research of the Hassan Group now focuses on understanding ion diffusion behavior in novel molten electrolytes and developing alternative methods for the separation of critical elements.
