Joyce Nava serves as the Assistant Director of the Academic Learning Center, where she oversees course-based tutoring and Supplemental Instruction (SI). She earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from Texas Lutheran University and an M.A. in Devleopmental Education with a concentration in Learning Support from Texas State University.
Her passion for student success begain as an SI leader for biology and chemistry, where she saw firsthand the impact that peer support and collaborative learning can have on student achievement. Today, she brings the same student-centered approach to her work in academic support with a particular focus on helping students recognize their strengths and apply transferrable skills across their academic and professional lives.
As a first-generation college student herself, she understands the challenges that can come with navigating higher education and is passionate about helping students recognize that they already possess many of the skills and strengths necessary to succeed.
