Dr. G. Robert Shelton is an accomplished chemist and educator currently serving as an Instructional Associate Professor at Texas A&M University-San Antonio in the College of Arts & Sciences, Department of Natural Sciences. With a career spanning multiple institutions, including Austin Peay State University and the University of North Texas, Dr. Shelton has extensive experience teaching a variety of undergraduate chemistry courses, including Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, General Chemistry, and study abroad courses.
Dr. Shelton earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Florida, where he conducted computational and experimental research on fluorinated cyclopropenes. He also holds a Bachelors & Master of Science in Chemistry from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, where he worked on synthesizing fluorinated pheromones. Currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, Dr. Shelton is further enhancing his leadership and academic credentials.
Dr. Shelton has a strong background in research, particularly in computational chemistry and the stability of small molecules, including hydrogen tunneling. His research has been widely published in leading scientific journals, and he has presented his work at numerous national and international conferences. He has been involved in grant-funded projects, including the development of iPad-integrated chemistry curricula.
In addition to his research and teaching roles, Dr. Shelton is deeply committed to student engagement, serving as the Director of Study Abroad and Program Coordinator at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. He has led study abroad programs and advised students on a variety of research projects, ranging from computational studies, chemistry education, to synthetic methodologies.
Dr. Shelton is an active member of the American Chemical Society contributing to the advancement of chemistry education through symposia, publications, and peer review. His innovative approaches to integrating technology into chemistry education have earned him recognition, and he continues to mentor the next generation of scientists through his leadership in student organizations and outreach programs.
