Lisa Ortiz is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University San Antonio. She earned a bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of the Incarnate Word, a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Our Lady of the Lake University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Trinity University.
I have 25 years of experience in education, including service in private, charter, and public schools. My career includes classroom teacher, reading interventionist, instructional coaching, and educational leadership. All of which has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of teaching, learning, and school improvement. Prior to joining Texas A&M San Antonio, I served in campus and district leadership roles, where a focus was placed on instructional excellence, teacher development, curriculum implementation, and student achievement. I successfully led school improvement efforts, supported teacher growth through coaching and evaluation, and fostered collaborative learning environments that prioritized student success.
Here at TAMUSA, I am committed to preparing future educators through meaningful clinical experiences, evidence-based instructional practices, and strong partnerships with schools and communities. With an emphasis on reflective practice, culturally responsive pedagogy, and the development of effective instructional leaders who are equipped to meet the diverse needs of today’s learners. I am passionate about mentoring aspiring educators, advancing educational equity, and strengthening the educator pipeline through high-quality teacher preparation.
