Syed M. Harun earned his Ph.D. in Financial Economics from the University of New Orleans. He has completed an MA in Economics from the University of New Orleans and a Master of Social Sciences (MSS) and Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSS) in Economics from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He taught at the University of New Orleans and Texas A&M University-Kingsville before moving to Texas A&M University–San Antonio, where he is a Professor of Finance at the College of Business. His teaching interests are corporate finance and investments at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He served as the Chair of the Department of Economics and Finance at Texas A&M University-Kingsville from 2005-2008 and the Department of Accounting and Finance at Texas A&M University-San Antonio from 2010-2021.
Syed M. Harun has an extensive research interest. He has active research projects in monetary policy and financial markets, personal finance and financial literacy, stock market anomalies, and behavioral finance. His research has appeared in the Journal of Economics and Finance, the Journal of Retirement, the International Journal of Business and Economics Perspective, the International Journal of Business, Accounting, and Finance, Southwest Teaching and Learning Journal, The International Journal of Finance, Multinational Finance Journal, Global Journal of Finance and Economics. He is active in professional organizations; he has served on the Southwestern Finance Association program committee, the Southwest Society of Economists, the Academy of Financial Services, and the Academy of International Business-Southwest Chapter.
