Dr. Kun Gou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computational, Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences at Texas A&M University–San Antonio. Dr. Gou received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, in 2012, following an M.S. and B.S. in Mathematics from Shandong University, Jinan, China. After completing his doctorate, he worked as a Research Associate and Visiting Instructor at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, where he conducted interdisciplinary research in biomechanics and computational modeling before joining the Texas A&M University system as a faculty member.

Dr. Gou’s primary research integrates continuum mechanics, partial differential equations, computational methods, and statistical analysis to study complex biomedical phenomena such as arterial calcification, airway swelling, cervical deformation during pregnancy, and the mechanics of general tubular organs. By combining theoretical analysis with computational simulations, his work provides quantitative insights into how mechanical and physiological factors interact in human tissues, helping to advance scientific understanding of disease mechanisms and tissue function.

Dr. Gou has received numerous internal research grants supporting projects in biomedical modeling and computational physiology. His research has appeared in leading journals across applied mathematics and biomechanics, including Journal of Physiology, Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, Journal of Biomechanical Engineering, Journal of Mathematical Biology, and International Journal of Engineering Sciences. He has also held visiting research appointments, including at Medical School (Brigham and Women’s Hospital), Harvard University, where he collaborated on biomedical research.

Beyond research, Dr. Gou is dedicated to education and mentorship. He has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses and has mentored many student research projects in mathematical biology and computational modeling. He has also contributed to curriculum development, including the creation of a Mathematical Biology minor and interdisciplinary courses integrating quantitative reasoning with real-world applications. Through his research, teaching, and service, Dr. Gou seeks to bridge applied mathematics with biomedical and engineering applications, advancing both scientific understanding and interdisciplinary education.
