Ho Phi Huynh is an associate professor of psychology at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Dr. Huynh received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Arizona in 2008 and his Ph.D. in Social/Health Psychology at the University of California, Riverside in 2014. Prior to arriving at TAMU-SA, he worked as an assistant professor at Armstrong State University (Savannah, GA) for three years.

Dr. Huynh is a social-health psychologist. He studies power imbalances in dyads, particularly the role that humility plays in these relationships. For example, he studies physician humility and examines patient health outcomes related to having a humble physician/clinician. He also examines how humility may affect patients. For example, are humble people more adherent to treatment recommendations? How does humility affect medical decision-making, such as developing and maintaining anti-vaccination attitudes, and deciding whether to vaccinate? Relatedly, Dr. Huynh is interested in humility development; for example, what psychological factors underpin humility and how can they be leveraged to cultivate humility? Finally, he is interested in student success, particularly for minority students. For example, how do students’ minority identity affect health outcomes such as stress, and academic outcomes such as retention and graduation?

Dr. Huynh teaches a variety of courses including statistics, research methods, social, sports, health, and positive psychology. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching volleyball and hanging out with his wife and two kids.
