Dr. Matthew McCluskey is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership in the Department of Educator and Leadership Preparation within the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. As such, he teaches coursework for aspiring campus and district administrators including, instructional leaders, principals and superintendents. Prior to his work in higher education, Matthew served as an Instructional Leader, Department Chair, and Assistant Principal of Curriculum & Instruction at a high school in Newark, New Jersey. He has conducted training sessions for teachers and school leaders on a variety of topics, including but not limited to standards-aligned instruction and leadership, leading rigorous reading instruction, coaching effective classroom discussion, building and sustaining culturally responsive school communities, data informed teaching and school leadership, and teaching and leading virtually. Matthew received his B.A. in Secondary Education and English and his M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from the Boston College Lynch School of Education. After a decade of experience, Matthew earned his Ed.D. in Leadership and Learning in Organizations from the Vanderbilt University Peabody College of Education and Human Development. His research interests include teacher retention and attrition, principal influence, instructional leadership, charter schools, the impact of neo-liberal school reform, teaching and leading as an intellectual pursuit, and action-research within school communities.
