Biography

Dr. A. Stephen Lenz is the Coordinator of Counseling Programs and a Professor in the Department of Counseling, Health and Kinesiology. He began his career in the Texas community mental health system where he worked as a licensed professional counselor and clinic director. Later, he transitioned to dual appointments in university and private treatment settings where he established a reputation for productive community partnerships aimed at promoting client well-being through evidence-based practices, increasing capacity for data-driven decision making, and supporting professional quality of life in the healthcare workforce. Lenz’s community-based work has received more than $6M in external funding, is represented in more than 100 peer-reviewed works, and has been acknowledged as best practice by the American Counseling Association and the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling.
