Sam Garcia is a Lecturer of English and Assistant Director of the Writing, Language, and Digital Composing Center (WLDCC), and he currently serves as the Faculty Fellow for the Office of Early College and Academic Partnerships. He received his B.A. in English and Philosophy and M.A. in Rhetoric and Composition from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Composition and Applied Linguistics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Sam has experience teaching Composition I and II, as well as Integrated Reading and Writing (INRW). He also regularly teaches paired sections of Composition I and INRW for corequisite dual-credit/early college high school students, and he has taught INRW courses for TAMU-SAs summer bridge programs for incoming first-year students, Jaguar Jumpstart and Jaguar Accelerate. Sam’s work in the WLDCC focuses on supporting students’ and tutors’ overall growth and academic persistence. As Assistant Director of the WLDCC, Sam plans and facilitates ongoing tutor professional development, and he engages in cross-campus programming for college access and literacy development. 

Sam’s scholarship explores Writing Center and Composition pedagogy and praxis, focusing on how writing programs can foster belonging and promote active engagement for underserved, underrepresented students. He has presented his work at state and national conferences, and his co-authored pieces appear in Another Word and Composition Studies.
