I am Sahan Ahmad, and I completed the doctoral program in Computer Science at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I have 3 years of experience as a software engineer and served as a technical lead, managing 5 software engineers for 1 year. Currently, I am working as an assistant professor at Texas A&M University, San Antonio.
One of my major research goals is to optimize deep learning model training. I can save up to 30%~70% of the computational time without losing accuracy to any deep learning model that uses a convolution operation. My other work outperformed an algorithm developed by a team at Google.
In graduate school, I trained 26 undergraduates in Machine Learning and involved them in ongoing lab projects. I co-supervised and assisted two Ph.D. students in their theses (DADL lab UL).
I have been teaching several computer science courses at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. My current research focus is on computer vision.
