Alana B. Collins is an assistant professional track lecturer in the College of Education. She has been a lecturer with Texas A&M University – San Antonio since 2005 teaching in education/certification, special education, and counseling departments. Dr. Collins’ areas of specialization include special education, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, mindfulness, career counseling, educational psychology, educational leadership, teacher preparation, and psychological assessment. Dr. Collins has 31 years of experience in EC-12 education, leadership and assessment, most recently in Southwest Independent School District as Executive Director of Special Education. She holds seven certifications from the State Board of Educator Certification, including regular education (EC-8), educational diagnostician, supervision, mid-management, in addition to certification to teach learning disabled, emotionally disturbed/autistic and hearing-impaired students. Dr. Collins earned a B.S degree in Education and Special Education from Texas State University in San Marcos, a Masters' of Science in Educational Psychology at the University of Texas in San Antonio, TX, and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX in educational leadership and organizational psychology. She attended Our of Lady of the Lake University post-doctoral to complete coursework for licensed specialist in school psychology. From January 2011 to August 2016, she advised graduate counseling students, assisted in school counseling certification, and coordinated the counseling comprehensive examinations, in addition to teaching counseling courses. Beginning August 2016 to July 2018, Dr. Collins served as certification specialist for professional certifications of educational diagnostician, school counselor, principal, superintendent and reading specialist. She coordinated respective internships, TExES testing for professional certifications, and certification requirements for SBEC professional certification, in addition to teaching special education practicum for diagnosticians and assessment courses. Since August 2018, Dr. Collins serves in the Counseling Department teaching conflict resolution, assessment, and career counseling.
