Scott is an Associate Professor in the Counseling and Guidance program. He is a native of Chicago and earned his B.A. in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University. He earned both his M.A. in Counseling and Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Peters is both a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor. He maintains a private practice, provides counseling services at Thrive Youth Center, and supervises Licensed Professional Counselor Associates. He has extensive clinical experience working with a wide variety of client and client problems including interpersonal violence, substance use and misuse, and serious mental illness. Dr. Peters has been published on topics such as working with deaf clients, intimate partner violence, Hispanic adolescent paternity and LGBTQ/gender expansive homeless youth. His research interests include youth homelessness, substance use and misuse, medication assisted treatment, and LGBTQ + youth and their families.
