Dr. Juan Antonio Jasso is a highly enthusiastic and accomplished educator with 43 years of experience in the field as an elementary, middle, and high school teacher, high school counselor middle and high school Principal, Instructional Officer for Language Arts, Social Studies and Foreign Language, Director of Bilingual, Gifted Education, Director of Federal and State Programs, and Superintendent of Schools.
Dr. Jasso holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Pan American University, a Master of Arts degree from UT San Antonio in Educational Psychology and a Doctorate from the University of Texas in Public Executive Leadership. He holds Texas teaching certifications in Elementary and Secondary Education. Dr. Jasso has successfully served for fourteen years as Superintendent of Schools for Sabinal ISD, Van Vleck ISD, and Southside ISD where all schools were rated either Recognized or Exemplary by the State of Texas in 2009-2010.
In 2015, Dr. Jasso joined the Texas A&M faculty as Director of Superintendent Studies. He offered instruction to students pursuing a Principal and Superintendent Certificate. Dr. Jasso delivered graduate level courses to Principal candidates and Doctorate level courses to Superintendent Certification candidates. In a well-designed co-teaching program that allowed practitioners to experience the best of the virtual and face-to-face worlds, a 100% passing rate at the University was recorded for the program. Leaders and professionalsfrom Southwest ISD, East Central ISD, San Antonio ISD, Edgewood ISD, Somerset ISD, Northeast ISD, Kennedy ISD, Floresville ISD, Harlandale ISD, Southside ISD, Jourdanton ISD, and South San ISD contributed to the success of the Superintendent’s Program at Tx. A&M-San Antonio.
In 2017 and 2018, Dr. Jasso received Department Recognition Awards for Outstanding Teaching. He is known for structuring the content of courses around Social, Legal, Economic, Educational, Political, and Ethical (SLEEPE) principles. Dr. Jasso is a firm believer that everyone deserves the opportunity to improve, that leadership reflects the time and period in the history of the organization, and that leadership comes to those who make the necessary adjustments without compromising the mission and vision of the organization.
Dr. Jasso has contributed to the communities he has served as the President of the Board of Directors for Wesley Community Centers in San Antonio, Finance Officer for the United Way in Bay City, Ex-Officio member of the SISD Education Foundation, member of the City South Management Authority, board member of the Light House Public Schools, and board member of the Institute for School and Community Partnerships. Dr. Jasso believes that service to the community defines leadership.
